Do Boond Zindagi Ki

A goal of 100% eradication of polio amongst children in the country, a programme we all know as the “Pulse Polio Programme”, was launched in 1995. Well known actor, Amitabh Bachchan, was brought in to run a public messaging campaign. In 2009, India reported 741 polio cases, more than any other country in the world, according to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. This was 10 years after the last case of Wild Polio Virus Type 2 (WPV2) was reported from U.P. The last cases of WPV1 and WPV3would come from Jharkhand in 2010 and West Bengal in 2011. Success at last – on 27th March 2014, the WHO declared India a polio free country.

Mobile Creches also participated in the campaign with gusto, in collaboration with Primary Health Centres (PHC’s) and the community, making sure that every child at the centre received the polio drops.
