The mother of all stories, the Mahabharata: The narrative at the core tells the story of two sets of paternal first cousins – the five sons of the deceased King Pandu (the Pandavas) and the one hundred sons of the blind King Dhritarashtra (the Kauravas) – who become bitter rivals and go to war, on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, for possession of the Bharata kingdom. Within this simple opposition there are characters with personal agendas and political ambitions, power struggles and ethical dilemmas, lofty principles and lowly deceptions, and sub-plots with enough twists and turns to make your head spin. Each of them is a story in itself.
