The mind of the prodigy

These studies start to give us a picture of the mind of prodigy: Prodigies are characterized by their at least average global intellectual functioning, and exceptional levels of working memory, attention to detail, and specific talent in rule-based domains.

Not surprisingly, then, prodigies are found largely in mathematics, music and chess –Emmanuel Lasker was a world chess champion and a serious mathematician. Vasily Smyslov and Mark Taimanov were chess grandmasters, but Smyslov was also a great opera singer and Taimanov one of Russia’s leading pianists.
